Sinus Grafting

The sinus graft procedure is sometimes necessary in order to place implants in the upper jaw in the bicuspid and molar regions (back teeth). This is often done simultaneously with implant placement but is occasionally done first and allowed to heal for six months. Determining whether to perform one or two separate surgeries is dependent on natural jawbone height. In this procedure, the sinus membrane is lifted higher up into the sinus cavity, creating a space below for the bone graft to be inserted. Over time, the body will replace the graft with true bone. Implants are then placed in the newly created bone. We have done this procedure thousands of times with excellent results.
