Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening involves removing excess gum tissue and bone to reveal more of your natural tooth. Often this procedure is needed as part of a crown or it may be a cosmetic treatment to improve a smile that is “too gummy.” With this procedure, your periodontist will surgically remove excess gum. In some cases, this may be adequate. In other cases, portions of the surrounding bone may also need to be removed. After the gum tissue or bone has been removed, your periodontist will apply stitches to the treated area. Once the gum has healed, you will be ready for any additional procedures if applicable.
