Oral Biopsy
As advocates for good oral health, we strongly recommend regularly checking the roof of the mouth, tongue, gums and cheek tissue on a regular basis. We note any changes and look for growths, discoloration or ulcerations. When a concern is discovered, a consultation with an oral surgeon may be necessary. While in most cases, growths are benign, an oral biopsy may be needed to make sure. During an oral biopsy the surgeon removes a small sample of tissue from the area or areas of concern. This tissue is then sent to a medical lab for tests and diagnosis.
