Orthognathic Surgery
Orthognathic surgery addresses conditions related to the structure and functionality of the jaw and face. Typically, this type of surgery is used to address conditions such as TMJ, malocclusion problems and sleep apnea. It can be utilized to address abnormalities, birth defects, or injuries. This surgery may also be performed as part of an orthodontic process.
The surgery involves cuts in the bones of the jaw. The surgeon typically performs these cuts through the mouth. These carefully calculated cuts allow the surgeon to reposition the jaw for optimum functionality. The patient is sedated via anesthesia for this surgery.
